Our Story

We are Zukira – a striking blend of cello and guitar, a unique synergy creating a captivating yet soothing sound. The classically trained cellist, Abbie, and Gavie, a modern contemporary guitarist, together have crafted an act that ensures a varied music selection for their audience. 

Our mixed heritage is a big part of our story. Abbie of mixed Ugandan and British descent, studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Gavie, of Afro-Ukrainian descent trained at the Kampala Music School in Uganda. Their joint African descent has influenced their singing/playing style hugely, drawing inspiration from genres like; Soul, R&B, afro and jazz, adding quite a touch to their class act.

Showcasing popular genres such as; Pop, R&B, Soul, Soft Rock, Indie, Afrobeat and jazz, the couple interpret and reimagine well known melodies to produce a satisfying musical experience, evoking nostalgia in the listener.

Gavie and Abbie together have crafted their performance style to suit pretty much any occasion/event – from weddings to charity events to private parties and corporate events, they’ve got you covered! From a large pool of genres to select from, Zukira will add that flair to make your event an unforgettable experience!
