Our Story
We are Zukira – a unique husband and wife duo playing a striking blend of cello and guitar. Having played together since meeting on the Ugandan scene, we’ve drawn on our diverse heritage to create an upbeat and mellow sound with a classical flair.
Our joint African heritage has influenced our singing and playing style hugely, and we have drawn inspiration from genres like Soul, R&B, Afro and Jazz.
Abbie, of mixed Ugandan and British descent, studied cello at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Gavie, of Ugandan and Ukrainian descent trained at the Kampala Music School in Uganda.
Showcasing popular genres including Pop, R&B, Soul, Soft Rock, Indie, Afrobeat and Jazz, we interpret and reimagine well known melodies in a distinctive style that blends the sonorous tones of the cello with African contemporary guitar to create a captivating and unforgettable musical fusion!
We have crafted our performance style to suit pretty much any occasion or event – from weddings to charity events to private parties and corporate events, we’ve got you covered! From a large pool of genres to select from, Zukira will add that magic to make your event an incredibly memorable experience!
